Whether we like to admit it or not, we all have anxieties about getting older. If you want to push past these worries, the trick is to remember that you are in control of your health and well-being no matter your age. In fact, you can use these self-care and wellness tips to take better care of yourself from top to bottom and slow the effects of aging.

Show Some Love to Your Skin

Your skin does so much more than help you look your best. In fact, your skin provides the very first layers of protection against germs, viruses, and other potentially harmful elements out in the world. So it’s important to take care of this vital organ, especially as you get older. If you tend to suffer from dry or irritated skin, whether due to age or other factors, adding a moisturizing CBD soap to your routine can be a good place to start. You can do more research into sizes, scents, and full vs. broad spectrum to ensure you get the best lather for your money.

Embrace All of Your Emotions

Now that you know the importance of taking care of your skin, let’s dive beneath the surface and look at health on a more cellular level. We can start at the very top with your mind and emotions. So many times we are taught to fear or flee from negative emotions and embrace the positive ones when really there should be more of an equilibrium. The trick to feeling content with life as you grow older is to learn how to be comfortable sitting with all of your emotions, including anxiety. Mindful routines like meditation and journaling can be particularly helpful for observing emotions and thoughts and finding comfort through them.

Be Mindful of What You Eat

Moving from your mind to your mouth, let’s talk about how what you eat can have an impact on how young and healthy you feel. While there are countless diets and trends out there, research has shown time and time again that plant-based eating habits are the most effective at preserving the health of your mind and body as you grow older. If you prefer to eat meat, try to keep in mind that plant-based doesn’t mean you have to give up meat altogether. It simply means you can try to eat less of it, and of course, less of the processed foods that can cause you to look and feel much older.

Be Protective of Your Heart

Eating a plant-based diet filled can safeguard your heart from the effects of aging. Heart health becomes even more important in your 40s and beyond. So, in addition to protecting your heart with a healthy diet and plenty of exercises, you should also protect it against negativity. Countless studies from top-ranked public institutions like Harvard, John Hopkins, and the National Institutes of Health have demonstrated that those who have a more positive attitude toward life also tend to have lower blood pressure, stronger hearts, and healthier bodies.

Focus on Your Sense of Balance

We’re going to move on down to your feet and talk about balance. You see as you get older, maintaining balance can become a little more difficult. In fact, seniors and older adults can be more prone to falls which can result in broken bones and other serious injuries. The good news is that falls and injuries are highly preventable. Simply changing your shoes or your lifestyle can help you avoid fall-related injuries in the future. Exercise can also keep your muscles and feet strong enough to support you, but it’s also important to find other sources of balance in your life.

It’s true that the tips and tools mentioned above aren’t exactly the fountains of youth. Even so, putting them into practice in your life can be a much more effective and realistic way to avoid feeling older than your actual age. That’s because while it may sound cliche, the secret to youth and contentment lies within you. So, create the life and future you want to live.
